The Beachcomber

A sure sign of summer is first pilgrimage to Wellfleet Massachusetts to visit one of our favorite places – The Beachcomber. The Comaah, as locally referred to, sits on a bluff overlooking the Atlantic Ocean in the beautiful National Seashore. Most of the time it is standing room only and is frequented by an eclectic mix of young and old, beachgoers, locals and visitors. We were able to luck into 2 bar seats for some adult beverages and shrimp and Wellfleet oysters from the Raw Bar. So much fun. Dinghies ready for the long weekend

This was an interesting view of Dinghies tied up to the quay at low tide in Marion Harbor. Overhead there was series of overhead ropes and pulleys with laundry detergent bottles as weights. Also the contrast of all of the rickety wood ladders for access to the boats against the stone of the sea wall. Faber-Castell Pitt pens in an Alpha Series Stillman and Birn 9″ x 12″ sketchbook.

Pawtucket Congregational Church

A quick ink sketch of the rear of the Pawtucket Congregational Church in Pawtucket, RI. The Italianate/Romanesque style church building was designed by Boston architect John Stevens and constructed in 1867-1868; it is the only known work of Stevens in Rhode Island. The cost of construction was $64,000. The perspective is a little wonky in this sketch with Faber-Castell Pitt pens in a Stillman and Birn Sketchbook.

Rhodies

The Rhododendrons in our yard are bursting out and are beautiful. Rhododendron (from Ancient Greek ῥόδον rhódon “rose” and δένδρον déndron “tree”) is a  genus of 1,024 species of woody plants in the heath family (Ericaceae), either evergreen or deciduous, and found mainly in Asia, although it is also widespread throughout the Southern Highlands of the Appalachian Mountains of North America. This is my first attempt at negative painting and may be used as a study for a larger painting. Utrecht Watercolors in a 5″ x 9″ Moleskine Watercolor book.

Graduation!

“As you start your journey, the first thing you should do is throw away that store-bought map and begin to draw your own.” – Michael Dell.

So proud of my niece Mallory for success and graduation from Fitchburg State University with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. My interpretation of the celebration of throwing the caps in the air. Watercolor and ink in a 9″ x 12″ Stillman and Birn Alpha Sketchbook.
