Floor Sander

This is how I spent half of my day today, helping my friend Keith sand his basement floors in preparation for stain. This was a difficult item to sketch in that it is bright chrome and hard to get the subelt shades and reflections. I just knew it had to be drawn since I we spent so much time with it. Who kept the faith and fought the fight; The glory theirs, the duty ours. – Wallace Bruce

A quick watercolor study of  a War Memorial in Capron Park in Attleboro, MA. The bronze figures were beautiful with the patina against the local granite monument. The dates on the memorial were 1863-1965. Daniel Smith Watercolors and ink in a 6″ x 8″ Moleskine Watercolor Book.

Sunrise

While driving into work today, there was a stunning sunrise. Brilliant oranges, yellows and streaks of blue. As I exited the highway, I caught a glimpse of the reflection in an upper gothic style window in a white New England church. I captured the visual from memory during lunchtime. Rusted Tin Building

The rust stained corrugated metal building caught my eye today as I was driving around town looking for a sketch opportunity. It is ironic that this building is the Massachusetts Department of Transportation Tree Trimming Facility, After this long winter, it is appropriate that a building used for tree trimming would be all rusted and look like it has not been occupied in a long time. MOM

Missing my mom even more today on what would have been her 86th birthday. I think of her every day for the values, work ethic and love for all that she taught my sister and I to live daily. Mom used to love to see all of the beautiful tulips that are grown in the Skagit Valley of Washington State. Great day trips and memories. Love and miss you mom… Happy Birthday!
