“For bells are the voice of the church; They have tones that touch and search The hearts of young and old.” — Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

Pen and Ink sketch of Saint Gabriel’s Episcopal Church in Marion. MA.  The current Chapel was consecrated in 1900. The patron saints name is said to have originated in a storm at sea, when Admiral Harwood called upon the Angel Gabriel for deliverance. He promised to build a church in Marion, which subsequently became St. Gabriel’s. Pigma Micron Black Pens in a Stillman and Birn Alpha Series Sketchbook.

Sunrise

While driving into work today, there was a stunning sunrise. Brilliant oranges, yellows and streaks of blue. As I exited the highway, I caught a glimpse of the reflection in an upper gothic style window in a white New England church. I captured the visual from memory during lunchtime. Rusted Tin Building

The rust stained corrugated metal building caught my eye today as I was driving around town looking for a sketch opportunity. It is ironic that this building is the Massachusetts Department of Transportation Tree Trimming Facility, After this long winter, it is appropriate that a building used for tree trimming would be all rusted and look like it has not been occupied in a long time.
