Beth’s Café

On our way onto the Cape for our Saturday road trip, we were going to stop at our usual spot for breakfast but the power was out in that area of town which forced us to explore. We found this wonderful little café an had a wonderful scrambled egg wrap. Beth’s Bakery and Café is owned by local lifetime residents of the beautiful historical town of Sandwich, Massachusetts on Cape Cod. This building was originally built as a Puritan Church and was owned later by the Catholic Church. The interiors are very simple with the original wood floors and a wonderful display case of baked goods. Carmel Mission

Mission San Carlos Borroméo del río Carmelo in Carmel-by-the-sea. The mission was the headquarters of the Alta California missions headed by Saint Junipero Serra from 1770 until his death in 1784. It was also the seat of the second presidente, Father Fermin Francisco de Lasuen. The mission buildings and lands were secularized by the Mexican government in 1833, and had fallen into disrepair by the mid-19th century. They were partially restored beginning in 1884. In 1886 it was transferred from the Franciscans to the local diocese and has continued as a catholic parish church since then. It is the only one of the California Missions to have its original bell tower dome. Maximus

Traveling from New Jersey, I got off the interstate in Old Saybrook, Connecticut. A great little town with cafes and restaurants in the old section of town. This is Maximus Antiques. The layers of plants and flowers were both in front of the shop as well as the roadway medium. Life Guard Tower

Picture perfect day at Nauset Beach in Orleans on Cape Cod. Everyone is taking advantage of the beautiful weather. The water is very refreshing with small waves. This is a black and white sketch of the Life Guard Tower across from the main access point. The background was a blur of color from the people and umbrellas, but I did not have time to complete the color. Sixth Precinct

This was a great little structure located in the parking lot of the Americana Manhasset Mall in Manhasset, New York. I assume it was for the local police department that patrols the mall. Manhasset Congregation Church

The Congregational Church of Manhasset, has a history that dates back to its organization in the fall of 1939. Groundbreaking ceremonies for this structure were held in May, 1948, and the cornerstone was laid on October 24.  Dedication of the building followed on June 12 of 1949. I was drawn to this building by the interesting and modern Bell Tower. I sketched this from the coolness of my car in between meetings on a very hot day.
