Gladiolus Flowers
I always loved the Gladiolus Flower in that we always had them in our yard growing up in Southern California. The Gladiolus is sometimes also called the ‘Sword lily’. The genus occurs in Asia, Mediterranean Europe, South Africa, and tropical Africa. Their stems are generally unbranched, producing 1 to 9 narrow, sword-shaped, longitudinal grooved leaves, enclosed in a sheath. The flower spikes are large, one-sided, are variously colored, pink to reddish or light purple with white, contrasting markings, or white to cream or orange to red.
Truro Vineyards of Cape Cod
Truro Vineyards has been in existence since 1992 but the house and the estate date back nearly two centuries. Built in 1813, the square dignified Federal house was part of a farm from its earliest beginnings. In 1930 famed artist Edward Hopper was inspired by the property and painted “Rich’s House”. He returned a year later to paint “Rich’s Barn”. During the 1940’s, the Richs produced magnificent cantaloupes grown in the estate’s warm, well drained sandy soil. Later, this same soil and site would prove to be a perfect spot for growing grapes. It is a perfect location to sit on the lawn in Adirondack chairs and enjoy a glass of their craft. P.B. Boulangerie
PB Boulangrie is located Perched in the south end of Wellfleet, Massachusetts, at the bend of Lecount Hollow Road, inside a pink rambler that last housed a seafood shack, the bakery and cafe has quickly won an enraptured following among locals and tourists alike, thanks to inexpensive pain au chocolat, crisp cranberry bread, lip-puckering lemon tarts and oversize flour-dusted batards and boules so perfect they might have been airlifted straight from the Left Bank. Fantastic Bakery and Bistro by 2 French Chefs that learned under Daniel Boulud at Wynn Resort in Las Vegas. Great vista to sketch with the pink walls and the bright flags. Sandy’s
Sandy’s on Plymouth Beach is much more than a beach snack stand. Great food, generous drinks and a fantastic view right on Plymouth Beach in Plymouth, MA. A great evening with friends and a wonderful sunset that seemed to last forever with purples and oranges. Boston Public Garden
This sketch is from a photo taken by my wife Lisa on a recent trip to Boston, thank you. The Boston Public Garden was established in 1837 when philanthropist Horace Gray petitioned for the use of land as the first public botanical garden in the United States. Gray helped marshal political resistance to a number of Boston City Council attempts to sell the land in question, finally settling the issue of devoting it to the Public Garden in 1856. The 24 acres landscape, which was once a salt marsh, was designed by George F. Meacham. In October 1859 Alderman Crane submitted the detailed plan for the Garden to the Committee on the Common and Public Squares and received approval. Construction began quickly on the property, with the lake being finished that year and the wrought iron fence surrounding the perimeter erected in 1862. The plan for the garden included a number of fountains and statues. Lamy Safari Fountain Pen with Noodlers ink in a Stillman and Birn Sketchbook.
Orange Trumpet Vine
Campsis radicans (trumpet vine or trumpet creeper), also known in North America as cow itch vine or hummingbird vine, is a species of flowering plant of the family Bignoniaceae, native to the eastern United States and naturalized in parts of the west as well as in Ontario and parts of Europe. Growing to 10 m (33 ft), it is a vigorous, deciduous woody vine, notable for its showy trumpet-shaped flowers. It inhabits woodlands and riverbanks, and is also a popular garden subject. I planted this in our yard 15 years ago and this is the first time I noticed the beautiful flowers and they extended 20 feet up the maple tree that is growing up. Herridge Books
Herridge Books is located just out of the center of the small village of Wellfleet, Massachusetts. The Bookstore is in a small building and is the perfect store for a town that has been host to so many writers. This was sketched from a photo taken at dusk. The lighting was beautiful and how it made the façade glow. I did not even know how to capture that, so I did not try. Black Pitt Art Pens, Holbein watercolors in a Stillman and Birn Sketchbook.
Trump National Bedminster
A fantastic day to play in a golf tournament at Trump National Bedminster, New Jersey. The Country Club in the former estate of John DeLorean of Automotive fame. Donald Trump bought the 434 estate in estate in 2000 and developed a PGA quality country club and course designed by Tom Fazio. This image is of the former horse stables. A stunning brick structure that is now part of the pool complex. Bedminster, New Jersey is a beautiful area with rolling hills and many horse farms, Faber-Castell Pitt pens and watercolors in a Stillman and Birn Alpha Series Sketchbook.
Harbor Shack
A great little vignette of a small shack on the docks of Plymouth Harbor, Massachusetts. The shack was very simple and the colorful lobster trap buoys caught my interest. In the background you can see the Mayflower ship that the pilgrams sailed over to the new world from England. Faber- Castell Pitt pens with watercolors in a Stillman and Birn Sketchbo0k.
