Great dinner at P. F. Chang’s Chinese Bistro. At all their locations they have these great sculptures of Chinese War Horses. Horses in East Asian warfare are inextricably linked with the strategic and tactical evolution of armed conflict. A warrior on horseback or horse-drawn chariot changed the balance of power between civilizations. Watercolors with black art pens in an Alpha Series Stillman and Birn sketchbook.

Fruit Vendor
New York City is such a vibrant and colorful atmosphere. I just love the street vendors, especially the fruit vendors that bring color and life into the city. The Green Vendors, with the support of city government, immigrants from all over the world sell healthy food on the streets in low-income neighborhoods to not only tackle the urban food crisis in areas bereft of nutritious fare but also in the hopes of providing a better life for their children. Upper East Side – NYC
In the great New York City for a kick-off of a new restaurant project. The Upper East Side is a lower and smaller scale than the very tall skyscrapers of Mid-town and Lower Manhattan. This view is of the layers of buildings near the corner of 2nd Avenue and 78th Street. I do not really catch the depth and detail as well as I wished. Raspberries
My 200th sketch this year. The Raspberry (/ˈræzˌbɛri/) is the edible fruit of a multitude of plant species in the genus Rubus of the Rose Family, most of which are in the subgenus Idaeobatus: the name also applies to these plants themselves. These black and red raspberries were growing wild on the edge of a parking lot and were beautiful. Pelikan watercolors, F-C Pitt pens in a 5″ x 8″ Moleskine watercolor sketchbook.

Fort Phoenix
It was a perfect day today to sketch outside. On my way home I stopped in Fairhaven, Massachusetts and did a quick sketch of Fort Phoenix. Fort Phoenix is an American Revolutionary War-era fort located at the entrance to the Fairhaven-New Bedford harbor in Fairhaven. Massachusetts. In 1775, only 25 days after the battle of Lexington-Concord, the fort was the site of the first naval battle of the revolutionary war when the Americans captured 2 British sloops. On September 5–6, 1778, Fort Phoenix was destroyed by the British when they were raiding the harbor. When it was rebuilt, it was given the name “Fort Phoenix” after the mythical bird that rose from its own ashes. Not a great subject or interesting sketch, but it was beautiful to sit by the sea and sketch. Pilot Namiki Falcon fountain pen with Noodler’s ink in a Stillman and Birn Sketchbook.
Saying Goodbye
Today our family and friends said goodbye to a beautiful woman who was taken too early from her loved ones. Beverly Collins Decas. As stated beautifully by her daughter Alexandra Decas – Beverly was a master in the art of friendship going to great lengths to nurture bonds, express her care and appreciation and most importantly to convey her gratitude for those numerous relationships. Her smile, wit, love of life, and positive energy was bestowed upon many and will be deeply missed. She loved people, connected deeply, and was loved in return. Eel Pond Canal
This is a sketch from a photo that I snapped last weekend in Woods Hole, Massachusetts. The location is the small canal that connects Great Harbor to Eel Pond. The Eel Pond Draw Bridge is used to allow Water Street to cross the canal and is located in Woods Hole, Massachusetts.
The drawbridge was rebuilt during the winter of 2008-2009. I chose to make a tonal study of this sketch. Faber-Castel Pit Art pens in Black and shades of Grey in a 9 x 12 Alpha Series Stillman and Birn Sketchbook.
Quahog Republic
We had an impromptu dinner date tonight with our best friends Keith and Katherine to celebrate her birthday. They had spent the day on Martha’s Vineyard and we met at the Quahog Republic in the hamlet of Onset, Massachusetts. It is a great little casual restaurant across the street from the water in Onset.
