Keep off the Dunes

Once again at Harding’s Beach in Chatham, MA on Cape Cod. While Lisa went for a walk, I did a quick sketch at the end of the parking lot of this sign and surrounding dunes with beach grass. Pilot Falcon Fountain pen with Noodlers bulletproof black ink in a Stillman and Birn sketchbook.

Mashpee Sunset

After a gray day with drizzle most of the day, the sun came out for a spectacular sunset. The location is Mashpee Commons in Mashpee, Massachusetts on Cape Cod. Mashpee is a planned retail and office complex with a wonderful Cape Cod Aesthetic. This view is towards the central building with the colorful sunset and parting clouds beyond. Prismacolor Art Pens with Holbein watercolors in a Stillman and Birn sketchbook.

“Never waste any amount of time doing anything important when there is a sunset outside that you should be sitting under!” – C. JoyBell C.

The close of another wonderful summer month. Amazing sunset over Plymouth Harbor, perfectly calm with true reflections on the water like glass. The colors blended perfectly from deep orange on the horizon to a deep Cobalt in the upper sky. Difficult to achieve a graded wash in this sketchbook. Holbein and Mission Watercolors, Black Pitt pens and a white gel pen in a Stillman and Birn Sketchbook.

Fruit Vendor

New York City is such a vibrant and colorful atmosphere. I just love the street vendors, especially the fruit vendors that bring color and life into the city. The Green Vendors, with the support of city government, immigrants from all over the world sell healthy food on the streets in low-income neighborhoods to not only tackle the urban food crisis in areas bereft of nutritious fare but also in the hopes of providing a better life for their children. Faber-Castell Pitt pens with watercolor in a Stillman and Birn Alpha 9 x 12 sketchbook.

Today is the Summer Solstice in North America. Even with the heavy rain, it is the season most anticipated in New England. This is a watercolor sketch from a photo that I snapped a couple of week ago. The view is from the Massachusetts Maritime Academy overlooking Buzzards Bay. Pitt Art pens, Utrecht Watercolors in a Moleskine 5″ x 8″ watercolor sketchbook.
