Another view of the Wood Hole Inn from last weekend. On the backside of the building facing the water and Ferry Terminal is a small Taqueria named Quicks Hole. What caught my eye here was the bright green umbrellas and the giant lobster holding the entertainment tonight sign. Extra Fine black pens with Pelikan watercolors in a Stillman and Birn Sketchbook.

The Lobster Pound
The Lobster Pound was founded by Frank Collins and Bill Callahan in 1963. Located on historic Manomet Point, The Lobster Pound operates at a location that is no stranger to fresh seafood. The first fish market opened on the Point in 1937. However, it is The Lobster Pound that has truly capitalized on its surroundings. Spectacular location south of Plymouth, MA in Manomet. The Independence
A beautiful morning to sit along the Cape Cod Canal at the Massachusetts maritime Academy in Buzzards Bay, Massachusetts. The sketch includes the Independence Tug Boat in the foreground with the Cape Cod Canal Railroad Bridge in the up position and the Bourne Bridge in the background. The Independence was built in 2008, by Derektor Shipyard of Bridgeport, Connecticut (hull # 86040) for Boston Towing and Transportation of Boston, Massachusetts. The tug was based out of Gloucester, Massachusetts until 2012 when the tug assumed escort duties in and around Buzzard’s Bay, and the Cape Cod Canal in Massachusetts.
Woods Hole Inn
At the very center of Woods Hole, a storied village playing a lead role in Cape Cod’s colorful history since the 1600’s, stands the Woods Hole Inn. This Cape Cod inn was first erected in 1887, as the area moved beyond its roots as a whaling village and merchant industrial hub, and embraced its future as a cradle of marine science and a summer playground. Originally built with 30 rooms, the four story gabled building was known early on as the Avery House, commanding waterside views of Great Harbor, crowded with merchant sailing ships, as well as the bustling train terminus next door. Back in the day, local lore has it that inn proprietor Mrs. Avery owned a parrot who squawked “Giddyup!” and “Whoa!” from the front porch whenever the horse-drawn mail coach passed. Today, from that same porch, guests can watch the nearby drawbridge go up and down, as it lets all manner of research and pleasure craft in and out of the snug inner harbor called the Eel Pond. Ink work done on site Plein Air and the watercolor added at home later.

Edgewood Country Club
Another road trip to New Jersey for work. We stopped at Edgewood Country Club in River Vale, New Jersey to take some measurements of the Mid-way House. Some interesting architecture on the site with this building being probably the oldest with the most architectural detail. Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame
The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame is an American history museum and hall of fame, located in Springfield, Massachusetts. It serves as the sport’s most complete library, in addition to promoting and preserving the history of basketball and is dedicated to Canadian-American doctor and inventor of the sport James Naismith. In 2002, the Basketball Hall of Fame moved into a $47 million facility designed by architects Gwathmey Siegal and Associates. The building’s architecture features a metallic silver, basketball-shaped sphere flanked by two similarly symmetrical rhombuses. Quick sketch from a photo taken in the car stopped in traffic on the highway on the way to a presentation. Faber-Castell Pitt pens with Utrecht watercolors in a Stillman and Birn Sketchbook.
The Blue Eyed Crab
What a great way to end May and bring in summer than with a sketch of our favorite restaurant, the Blue Eyed Crab in Plymouth, Massachusetts. Such a wonderful restaurant with amazing seafood, great location, wonderful staff and a Fantastic Chef/Owner, Jim Casey in the Kitchen. I was able to spend this morning at the “Crab” as they were filming a segment of Diners, Drive-ins and Dives for the Food network. We deserved recognition. Rye Tavern
The Rye Tavern is located in the historic Colonial era Wright Tavern, at the intersection of Old Tavern Trail and Old Sandwich Road in Plymouth, MA. Old Sandwich Road has been in use for over 350 years. It was a beautiful evening tonight for dinner and cocktails on the beautiful outdoor patio adjacent to the working gardens. At Rye Tavern they are strong believers in bringing the freshest ingredients to the plates with local and restaurant grown products in the Farm to Table Movement. Eastham Windmill
The Eastham Windmill, located in Eastham, Massachusetts, is the oldest windmill on Cape Cod. It was constructed by Eastham resident Thomas Paine in Plymouth in 1680. It was first moved to nearby Truro in 1770, then finally to Eastham in 1793. In 1808 the windmill was moved to its present location, near the Eastham Town Hall and the Eastham Public Library. Eastham Windmill, as part of the Eastham Center Historic District, was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1999. Possible future painting.
