Ridgewood Avenue School

A little free time prior to another country club meeting. Ridgewood Avenue School is an upper elementary school with approximately 600 students in Grades 3-6.  The school builds on the foundation skills learned in the primary schools, and through an authentic and hands-on approach, encourages students to love and take responsibility for their own learning. The building itself is located in the heart of the Borough and is a tan brick with carved limestone details and a beautiful red clay tile roof. The school is listed on the State Historic Register. This charming turn of the century building houses the only auditorium in the district.

Main Street Wine and Gourmet

Tonight we went to an art opening by one of favorite artists, Susan Overstreet. The location was at Main Street Wine and Gourmet on Main Street in Orleans, MA. It is a great venue as a mezzanine overlooking the wine shop. Beautiful artwork, wine and snacks made a wonderful evening. This view is the exterior as the sunset was reflecting in the windows of the shop. Truro Vineyards of Cape Cod

Truro Vineyards has been in existence since 1992 but the house and the estate date back nearly two centuries. Built in 1813, the square dignified Federal house was part of a farm from its earliest beginnings. In 1930 famed artist Edward Hopper was inspired by the property and painted “Rich’s House”. He returned a year later to paint “Rich’s Barn”. During the 1940’s, the Richs produced magnificent cantaloupes grown in the estate’s warm, well drained sandy soil. Later, this same soil and site would prove to be a perfect spot for growing grapes. It is a perfect location to sit on the lawn in Adirondack chairs and enjoy a glass of their craft. P.B. Boulangerie

PB Boulangrie is located Perched in the south end of Wellfleet, Massachusetts, at the bend of Lecount Hollow Road, inside a pink rambler that last housed a seafood shack, the bakery and cafe has quickly won an enraptured following among locals and tourists alike, thanks to inexpensive pain au chocolat, crisp cranberry bread, lip-puckering lemon tarts and oversize flour-dusted batards and boules so perfect they might have been airlifted straight from the Left Bank. Fantastic Bakery and Bistro by 2 French Chefs that learned under Daniel Boulud at Wynn Resort in Las Vegas. Great vista to sketch with the pink walls and the bright flags. Herridge Books

Herridge Books is located just out of the center of the small village of Wellfleet, Massachusetts. The Bookstore is in a small building and is the perfect store for a town that has been host to so many writers. This was sketched from a photo taken at dusk. The lighting was beautiful and how it made the façade glow. I did not even know how to capture that, so I did not try. Black Pitt Art Pens, Holbein watercolors in a Stillman and Birn Sketchbook.

P.F. Chang’s

Great dinner at P. F. Chang’s Chinese Bistro. At all their locations they have these great sculptures of Chinese War Horses. Horses in East Asian warfare are inextricably linked with the strategic and tactical evolution of armed conflict. A warrior on horseback or horse-drawn chariot changed the balance of power between civilizations. Watercolors with black art pens in an Alpha Series Stillman and Birn sketchbook.

Fruit Vendor

New York City is such a vibrant and colorful atmosphere. I just love the street vendors, especially the fruit vendors that bring color and life into the city. The Green Vendors, with the support of city government, immigrants from all over the world sell healthy food on the streets in low-income neighborhoods to not only tackle the urban food crisis in areas bereft of nutritious fare but also in the hopes of providing a better life for their children. Upper East Side – NYC

In the great New York City for a kick-off of a new restaurant project. The Upper East Side is a lower and smaller scale than the very tall skyscrapers of Mid-town and Lower Manhattan. This view is of the layers of buildings near the corner of 2nd Avenue and 78th Street. I do not really catch the depth and detail as well as I wished. Faber-Castel Pitt Art pens in a Stillman and Birn Alpha Sketchbook.
